Mayor John Hickenlooper, Superintendent Michael Bennet Join Dedication Of East High School's New Athletic Fields Friday, Sept. 2; Rock Band "The Fray" Will Debut MTV Video Featuring East High School
East High School will celebrate the completion of its new athletic fields with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and DPS Superintendent Michael Bennet will be in attendance.
The three-month long, 340,000-square-feet construction project includes a new softball, baseball, discus, shot put, track and multi-purpose field for East High School's 1,900 students and faculty. The $1.5 million project is part of the $310 million general obligation bond approved by Denver voters in November 2003.
Prior to the dedication ceremony, local rock band The Fray will debut its new video, "Over My Head (Cable Car)," which was filmed partially at the school. The video will be played at 1:45 p.m. in the school auditorium. Members of the band will show the video, sign autographs and distribute posters and stickers.
The Fray is a Denver-based foursome that performs melodic pop-rock songs. The band has won "Best New Band" honors from Denver's Westword Magazine and garnered substantial airplay on two of Denver's top rock stations - the demo version of "Over My Head (Cable Car)" became KTCL's top 30 most played song of 2004 in just four months. The band signed to Epic Records in 2004 and will release its debut album "How To Save A Life" next month.
East High School is located at 1545 Detroit St. The phone number is 720-423-8300.
