Pupil Assistance Fund Receives $10,000 Grant To Provide Emergency Assistance For Students
The A. V. Hunter Trust awarded $10,000 to the DPS Pupil Assistance Fund for the 2005-2006 school year. Funds will provide 23 eye exams and glasses, 200 winter coats and medicated shampoo for 1,470 students from low-income families.
The DPS Pupil Assistance Fund is dedicated to assisting students to improve their functioning in school and community. Among the services provided to students last year were 540 eye examinations and eye glasses, 524 new school clothes, 667 winter coats, 235 pairs of gloves, 300 winter hats, 800 ARC Thrift Stores vouchers and 75 cases of diapers (for the Teen Parent Program). Qualifying students also received $15,320 worth of toothbrushes, medicated shampoo and discounted RTD tokens.
Students who meet the federal guidelines established for subsidized school lunches are eligible for assistance. Each request for supplies and services from the Pupil Assistance Fund goes through school nurses, social workers or psychologists.
A. V. Hunter Trust, Inc. provides financial assistance to Colorado charitable institutions or projects that provide direct assistance to children, aged persons or indigent adults.
