Community Meeting Tuesday, Aug. 30 To Discuss Grade Configuration Proposal At Westerly Creek Elementary School
Community members are invited to attend a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 30 beginning at 6:30 p.m. to discuss a proposal to create a combined K-8 campus to serve students who attend the Westerly Creek Elementary School and who would attend a new school being built nearby.
The meeting will be held at Westerly Creek Elementary, 8800 E. 38th Ave. on the Stapleton Redevelopment site. The meeting, to be hosted by the Northeast Area Superintendent's Office, will begin with a brief presentation about the proposal followed by an opportunity to hear community questions, issues and concerns.
Westerly Creek opened two years ago and currently serves students from students in Early Childhood Education (ECE) through sixth grade. A second school, originally planned to serve students in ECE through eighth grade, is slated to open in August 2006. Community members have proposed to reconfigure the two original designs, with Westerly Creek serving students in ECE through third grade and the new school serving students in grades 4-8.
The proposal has been forwarded by the president of the Westerly Creek Elementary School's local governing committee; the president of the school PTA; school principal Patricia Lea; and Brian Weber, vice president of the Stapleton Foundation.
