ProComp - Professional Compensation System For Teachers - Is Focus Of July Edition Of "DPS Today" Television Show

The July 2005 edition of "DPS Today," the monthly television show about Denver Public Schools on Denver cable 8, features an overview of the proposed Professional Compensation System for Teachers, or "ProComp" for short.

Earlier this month, the Denver Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution that asks voters to consider ballot language that, if approved, would raise the $25 million needed to support the proposed system, which would link teacher pay to the school district's instructional mission.

The July edition of "DPS Today" looks at the various elements that comprise the proposed pay plan - market incentives, meeting student growth objectives, acquiring knowledge and skills, and the new professional evaluation process.

Guests on the show are Brad Jupp, who has been coordinator of the ProComp project since the teachers approved the plan in March 2004; Sarie Patterson, who represents student service professionals on the ProComp Transition Team (the oversight group of teachers and administrators managing the development of the project); and Jeff Buck, the ProComp liaison to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and a member of the ProComp Transition Team.

The show can be seen on Denver cable 8 every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 a.m.; every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m.; and every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. throughout the month.

Denver stations 22 and 48 also re-broadcast "DPS Today." Channel 22 is the DPS channel on Comcast cable in Denver. Channel 48 is an ITFS microwave channel that is received only within all DPS facilities and delivered on cable channel 48 in the each classroom.

The show for the current month airs on channels 22 and 48 at 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays; 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Mondays; 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays; 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; 8 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays; and 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. The previous month's show airs at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
