Board Meeting Tonight Will Officially Appoint Michael Bennet As New DPS Superintendent
The Denver Board of Education will continue today's special Board meeting in open session beginning at 6:30 p.m. to consider a motion appointing Michael Bennet, currently Chief of Staff to Mayor John Hickenlooper, as the new Superintendent of Denver Public Schools.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be held in the first-floor Board Room at 900 Grant St. and will be televised live on channel 22, the DPS channel on Comcast cable in Denver.
Denver Board of Education president Les Woodward announced the selection of Bennet today at a 12:15 p.m. news conference at the administration building. Woodward said Bennet had the "unanimous support and backing" of the Board of Education and added that Bennet's "capacity for leadership" was among the proven talents that he will bring to the position of superintendent.
Mayor John Hickenlooper, who attended the news conference, said Bennet was a "wonderful choice" and represented a "very positive day for Denver Public Schools and the city of Denver."
