Four Entries Bringing Home Prizes From National History Day Competition At University Of Maryland
Competition in the three-day National History Day finals at the University of Maryland this week produced four winners from Denver Public Schools.
There were approximately 85 entries in each entry category (over 800 total entries) and students came from 48 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, and Department of Defense schools overseas. Four DPS entries were announced as winners at the awards ceremony yesterday morning:
Silver Medal - Senior Group Exhibit Brigitte Siller & Norah Kissell, Denver School of the Arts "Communication Through the Lens: The Photography of Lewis Hine for the Children" Ed Glassman, teacher
Silver Medal - Senior Individual Documentary Ryan Brown, Denver School of the Arts "Servant to Civil Rights: Bayard Rustin" Ed Glassman, teacher
Outstanding State Entry, Junior Division (Junior Group Performance) Jaqueline Meraz, Eboni Coleman, Aura Cruz, Nyasha James-Davis, & Chloe Armao "Communication on the Road to Freedom: The Journey of the Underground Railroad" Barbara Allen, teacher
Outstanding State Entry, Senior Division (Senior Paper) John Stanford, George Washington High School "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught: Social Issues as Communicated in the American Musicals of Oscar Hammerstein" Bonnie Guggenheim, teacher
