Rocky Mountain News Columnist Tina Griego, North High School Principal Darlene LeDoux Discuss "The North Side" Series On May Edition Of "DPS Today"
The May 2005 edition of "DPS Today," the monthly television show about Denver Public Schools on Denver cable 8, features a conversation with Rocky Mountain News columnist Tina Griego, who has spent the 2004-2005 school year writing in an up-close-and-personal fashion about North High School. Throughout the school year, her "The North Side" series has taken a close look at all aspects of school life at North and in the surrounding community.
Joining the discussion on "DPS Today" is North High School principal Darlene LeDoux, who has had the challenge of managing North and developing proposals for reform all under the daily, watchful eye of a columnist.
Both LeDoux and Griego are interviewed by CBS-4 reporter Anna Alejo, the host of "DPS Today" and Mark Stevens, DPS Director of Communications. The program also features some of the photos taken by Rocky Mountain News photographer Maria Avila, who has been embedded alongside Griego.
Since mid-August, when the school year started, Griego has made North High School her home. She has become a familiar face in the hallways and classrooms at North. Griego has profiled hard-working teachers and administrators; spent time with chronic non-attenders; observed staff meetings; traveled with school teams to athletic events; studied the academic achievement levels of North's incoming freshman; and visited nearby schools to find out about the preparation of students before they reach high school. In short, North High School has been Tina Griego's prism for viewing, writing about and thinking about public education.
The show can be seen on Denver cable 8 every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 a.m.; every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m.; and every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. throughout the month.
Denver stations 22 and 48 also re-broadcast "DPS Today." Channel 22 is the DPS channel on Comcast cable in Denver. Channel 48 is an ITFS microwave channel that is received only within all DPS facilities and delivered on cable channel 48 in the each classroom.
The show for the current month airs on channels 22 and 48 at 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays; 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Mondays; 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays; 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; 8 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays; and 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. The previous month's show airs at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
