Hundreds of Denver students will compete at the district's Destination Imagination tournament from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at George Washington High School. The awards ceremony will be held that day at 7:45 p.m.
Winners will move on to the statewide competition Saturday, April 30 at the University of Denver. The global finals are set for May 24-29 at the University of Tennessee.
Destination Imagination(r) (Di) is the creative problem-solving program offered by Denver Public Schools and the University of Denver that encourages divergent thinking, creative problem solving and teamwork. Teams of up to seven students, encouraged by adult team managers, select a team challenge and work during the year to devise their solution to present at the Denver competition in the spring. They also practice to strengthen their ability to think on their feet, which prepares them to solve a surprise instant challenge presented at the competition. Top scoring teams advance to the Colorado state competition, where they compete for the right to represent Colorado at global finals, which brings together teams from across the country and the world.
The competition schedules are online at gt.dpsk12.org. Challenges include:
DIzzy Derby - Teams design a reliable vehicle with a technical energy source that will race around a triangular track transporting one or more team members.
