'Fast Food Nation: The Play' Performed By Rocky Mountain School Of Expeditionary Learning Students, At Mizel Center Thursday, April 21

On Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the Shwayder Theatre at the Mizel Center for Arts and Culture, students from the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning will be performing "Fast Food Nation: The Play."

As part of a study on food, students have been demonstrating their knowledge by writing scenes based on reading Fast Food Nation.

Students have been grappling with questions such as: What happens to a burger as it goes through the digestion process? What are the consequences of working in fast food restaurants? What harmful things do we consume in eating innocent-looking foods and drinks? Do we live in a fast food nation? If so, is it inescapable?

Some of the topics in the scenes include: Coke: how does it affect your health? Or, how does the fat from hamburger enter the bloodstream? Some of the topics are a mixture of knowledge gained from reading "Fast Food Nation" (written by Eric Schlosser) mixed with the students' imagination and creativity. Other scenes are about consequences from actions in working in the fast food industry and other things students have learned while in reading the book.

So, do we live in a fast food nation? Can we escape it? Come see the play and see what the students think!
