Baker Middle School To Host Faculty And Staff Alumni Reception May 18

In celebration of Baker Middle School's years of serving the Baker community, the school is inviting all faculty and staff alumni to a reception from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the school.

The Denver Board of Education recently approved closing Baker Middle School - in addition to Rosedale Elementary School and Gove Middle School - at the end of this school year. The closures are part of a plan to reduce spending by $11.6 million to balance the 2005-2006 budget.

The original Baker Junior High School opened in 1892 and was torn down in 1957. The existing building opened that same year (1957) as Baker Middle School. The school is named for James Hutchens Baker, the first principal of East High School.

Baker faculty and staff alumni should RSVP by Friday, May 13 to Kathy Longoria 720-423-9063.
