Additional Revitalization Committee Meetings Next Week

The Board of Education already has approved revitalization plans for four neighborhood schools, and committees in nine other schools continue working to select programs to improve student achievement and attract families back into neighborhood schools.

Upcoming Revitalization Committee Meetings

The Board of Education in March identified 13 schools eligible to tap $2.5 million targeted for the revitalization campaign that was envisioned under the 2003 mill levy election (a $20 million annual tax increase approved by voters).

Revitalization committee membership includes two to four individuals from each of these groups: parents of existing students; parents residing in the neighborhood but whose children do not attend the school; representatives from the school's staff, preferably one of whom is a member of the Collaborative School Committee; and non-parent community members.

The schools are Bradley, Brown, Ford, Gilpin, Montclair, Remington, Sabin and Stedman elementary schools and Cole, Henry, Hill, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Skinner middle schools. (Cole Middle School's ongoing reforms were started in 2002-2003.)
