Bradley International School Open House Tuesday, Jan. 11

Bradley International School (Denver Public Schools' first elementary school to implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme), will host an Open House on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Classrooms will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A formal presentation of IB/PYP will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Superintendent Jerry Wartgow, Board of Education member Bruce Hoyt, school principal Angelo Spataro and staff will be present at the 6:30 p.m. presentation.

A second presentation to the community will take place on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The PYP is designed for children ages four through 12 (pre-kindergarten through fifth 5th grade). At the heart of the PYP is a commitment to structured inquiry as a vehicle for learning. Six organizing themes help teachers and students explore knowledge in the broadest sense of the word. Teachers and students use key questions that are concept-based to structure the units of inquiry. Students acquire and apply inter-disciplinary skills while developing an understanding of these important concepts.

The development of explicit attitudes and the expectation of socially responsible behavior are also essential elements of the programme. The programme contains a foreign language component. At Bradley the language is Spanish. All traditional subjects are covered with a focus not only on the academic needs, but also on the mind, social, physical, emotional, and cultural needs. The hope of the program is that students are able to take what they learn in school and apply that knowledge to life outside of the classroom setting.
