University Park Elementary School Student Health Fair Feb. 1
From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, University Park Elementary School will hold an all-day health fair at the school for itsvv students. The goal is for the students to take pride in themselves, their school and their community. Students will rotate through numerous stations, many manned by community volunteers.
Some of the stations are: Breathe Better Bus; Cardiovascular System and Blood Pressure; Jump Rope; Healthy Web Sites and Books; Positive Relationships; Food Origins; Safety on the Streets; Feeling Good through Music; Ambulance; Animal Safety and Fire Prevention;
"The University Park Elementary students are trying to raise awareness and raise funds for our world, our school and ourselves," said principal Katherine Johnson. Students will solicit pledges for their jumping rope station. A portion of the money raised will be used to aid the victims of the tsunami disaster and representatives from UNICEF will give a presentation to the whole school about the disaster and how their efforts to raise money will help alleviate the suffering and destruction. Some of the money will go to buying new gym equipment and some will go for purchasing prizes that the students can earn for themselves.
University Park Elementary School is located at 2300 S. St. Paul St. For information, contact Nancy Smith, physical education teacher, at 303-756-9407.
