Rosedale Elementary School "Math Games Day" Is Tuesday, Jan. 25

Rosedale Elementary School will host "Math Games Day" for parents from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25

This is a day for Rosedale parents to come to school to learn with their children how to play number games with cards, dice and counters. These games will enhance their "Number Power" and increase their math skills so math games can become a regular part of family activities.

(Number Power is a new district-wide campaign that works in the same way the Million Words Campaign challenges students to become better readers and writers by reading more books. By adding up and recording the time students spend brushing up on their math skills, the Number Power campaign aims to help them retain basic math skills for the long term. Rather than learning math only during math class, Number Power spreads out lessons over time - throughout the day, after school and at home. Shorter periods of intensive review are better than longer periods, and games provide an effective review of what students already are doing in classrooms.)

"Our families are welcome to come and spend an hour or the entire morning with us. We promise a fun, interactive experience for parent and child alike," said Rosedale principal Khoa Nguyen.

Parents will leave with a packet of materials for games that will include a deck of cards, dice and counters as well as instructions for playing games at home. Families should plan to come to school at the time scheduled for their child's class.

Refreshments will be provided in the teachers' lounge and parents will also have the chance to win a door prize.

Rosedale Elementary School is located at 2330 S. Sherman St. The school's telephone number is 303-744-2381.
