Warm Up January With Student Art

Student art is on display all over town - inside and out - during the cold month of January, thanks to area businesses.

Fergie's Frozen Custard in Lowry Town Center (200 Quebec St. Building 600, Suite 117) has its first display of visual arts from the Denver Public Schools. Twelve elementary schools are represented in this first group exhibition. There will be a different exhibit each month. Southeast area elementary art teachers gathered for a matting session at Frame by Frame at Lowry Town Center and hung the show last week. This exhibit will be up through the end of the month.

Merrill Middle School art is featured at the Gallery at Belcaro, 5475 Leetsdale Drive through Monday, Jan. 31.

Carson Elementary School and Knight Fundamental Academy have portraits and horse watercolors on view in the Galleria Towers, 720 Colorado Blvd. through Monday, Jan. 17.

South High School is featured in a window display of art at 250 West 14th Ave. at the Forum Apartments. Drawings, paintings and a ceramic piece are on view through the month of January.

And, finally, an exciting outdoor art venue has been completed along the west side of Broadway near Colfax. Hensel Phelps Construction has teamed up with six elementary schools to display art in the lime green construction barriers for the new Denver Newspaper Agency Art on the Walkways Legacy Project. Artist Darrell Anderson worked with students from Lincoln, Southmoor, Schmitt, Stedman, Rosedale and Remington elementary schools. There was a competition and the chosen works were hung in the barriers next to an enlargement created by Mr. Anderson.
