School Tsunami Fundraising Efforts Continue; Grant Middle School Moves Saturday Bake Sale Location

Grant Middle School's eighth-grade class bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 has been moved to Lincoln High School instead of the middle school. Lincoln High School is located at 2285 S. Federal Blvd. For more information, contact Nicole Houghton at 720-365-7487, Nina Severns at 303-733-6810 or Grant Middle School principal Ricardo Concha at 303-722-4633.

Castro Elementary School students will collect pennies, other coins and paper money through Monday, Jan. 17 to benefit the victims of the tsunami. "We are trying to fill a five-gallon water jar," said principal Frank Gonzales, who will kiss a pig and wear a dress on Friday, Jan. 21 (in celebration of meeting the goal) when the money will be ready to go to the Red Cross. Castro Elementary School is located at 845 S. Lowell Blvd. The school's phone number is 303-935-2458.

The Student Council at the Polaris Program At Ebert recently challenged the school's students to come up with as much of their saved money as possible to give to the tsunami victims, and many took all their money out of piggy banks. "Some of the children asked their parents to match what they gave, and we raised $2,100 in that manner," said principal Diana Howard. "Our PTO had promised to add $1,000 to what we raised, thus we have a $3,100 donation for People to People - an organization that is not taking out any administrative costs." The Polaris Program at Ebert is located at 410 Park Ave. West. The phone number is 303-292-4629.

Pioneer Charter School students will collect money from Tuesday, Jan. 18 to Tuesday Jan. 25 to raise funds for Tsunami relief. "This came about because of numerous student and class discussions about ways that they could help all of the children that had lost their homes," said Jennifer LeBlanc, literacy coordinator. All proceeds will go to UNICEF. Pioneer Charter School is located at 3230 E. 38th Ave. The school's phone number is 303-329-8412.

Students at the Omar D. Blair School (an Edison K-8 school in northeast Denver) are collecting "handfuls of hope - coins" that will be donated at the end of January to a reputable non-profit agency to benefit those affected by the Tsunami in the recent weeks. "Hope is the core value at the Omar D. Blair School for the month of January," said student support manager Joi Green. The school is located at 4905 Cathay St. For additional information, contact Joi Green at 303-371-9570.
