Veterans Day Activities Begin Tomorrow; District Closed Thursday, Nov. 11

Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps - saturday, Nov. 6

One thousand Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) cadets will march in Denver's Veterans Day Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at Civic Center Park. The DPS JROTC is the largest contingent in the parade and will march with the escort division, 10th in line from the start.

Lowry Elementary School - Wednesday, Nov. 10

Lowy Elementary School will open its doors to Veterans for a special school- wide celebration and assembly at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10. Students, teachers, family and friends of Lowry will welcome and honor veterans with letters of appreciation, certificates, and performances by classes. The George Washington High School JROTC precision drill team and the Buckley Air Force Honor Guard will post colors and perform. A tribute to Francis B. Lowry, the school's namesake, will also contribute to the day's planned activities. All veterans are cordially invited to the festivities. Steele Elementary School - Wednesday, Nov. 10

To honor veterans, Steele Elementary School will hold a school-wide assembly at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10 in the school auditorium. The program will include student readings and songs that highlight various wars in our country's history. Students have invited family members who are veterans to attend the assembly as special guests. The Steele community also has written dedications to family members who served in the military but are unable to attend the event. For more information, please call Steele Elementary School, 320 S. Denver Public Schools - Thursday, Nov. 11

Offices and schools in Denver Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. Note that there is no school for all students on Friday, Nov. 12.
