North High School's Black Masque Theatre Company Opens Its 2004-05 Season With Lorca's "Blood Wedding" On Thursday, Nov. 18
North High School's Black Masque Theatre Company will heat up the stage with Federico García Lorca's "Blood Wedding" from Thursday, Nov. 18 through Sunday, Nov. 21
Performances will be held each night at 7 p.m. Matinee performances also will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. All performances are on the Black Masque stage at North High School (2960 N. Speer Blvd).
The Black Wedding performance welcomes back the stars of last year's hit "Zoot Suit Riots," including Elvis Nuñez, Alexandria Paulson, Davina Santovena, Vanessa Arvizo, Crystal Santovena, Lucy Wood, Veronica Gallegos, Addison Woodward and Joel Naranjo. The play is directed by North High School theatre teacher José Mercado.
Performances are in English, however, the Friday and Sunday performances will feature much of the original Spanish text. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, and will be available at North High School or at Common Grounds Coffee House on 32nd & Lowell. All ticket sales benefit the North High School theater department.
About Federico García Lorca
Federico García Lorca was one of Spain's most celebrated poets and playwrights. He single handedly brought forth the revival of Spanish theatre in the 1930's through new techniques and an evocative and surreal language. Among other works, Lorca is famous for Blood Wedding (1933), Yerma (1934), and The House of Bernada Alba (1934).
