Essie Garrett And Emily Griffith Opportunity School To Hold 13th Annual Thanksgiving Run And Pancake Breakfast For Homeless Thursday, Nov. 25
The Emily Griffith Opportunity School (EGOS) and Essie Garrett will host the 13th annual Thanksgiving Run and Pancake Breakfast at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 25 at 1250 Welton St. Proceeds from the event will benefit the EGOS Student Scholarship Fund.
In the company of 30 Golden High School seniors, Garrett will do a 5K circuit run from the corner of 14th Ave. and Sherman St. around the Emily Griffith Opportunity School. Following the run, Garrett and company will prepare and serve a pancake breakfast at the school for the homeless. Garrett has partnered with Golden High School for this event over the past 13 years.
Essie Garrett is a 59-year old Denver resident who has raised over $1,000,000 for charities. Over the last 25 years, Garrett has run over 23,000 miles, almost equivalent to the circumference of the world, to raise funds for the less fortunate. In 2003 she ran 1,079 miles from Denver to Chicago on crutches and raised $30,000 for student scholarships at Emily Griffith Opportunity School.
Serving 15,000 students annually, Emily Griffith Opportunity School offers 350 courses, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive post-secondary vocational and technical training centers in Colorado. Credit from technical programs is transferable to the Colorado community college system for those students desiring an AAS degree. Many classes are open-entry/open-exit so students can start class when it's convenient and work at their own pace.
