Centennial K-8 School To Dedicate New Learning Landscape And Four-Classroom Addition Friday, Nov. 19; Mayor John Hickenlooper Expected To Attend
Centennial K-8 School will dedicate its new Learning Landscape and four-classroom addition on Friday, Nov.19 at 1:30 p.m. at the school, 4665 Raleigh St.
Special guests at the dedication will include Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, City Councilman Rick Garcia and members of Denver Fire Department Station 17. The dedication and ribbon cutting will include brief comments from dignitaries and then the students will be able to play on their new Learning Landscape.
The 6,000 square-foot addition will facilitate Centennial's transition from an elementary school to northwest Denver's first K-8 facility. The classrooms are intended to serve students in grades seven and eight. Built in proximity to the grade six classrooms, the location for the addition was chosen in an attempt to minimize disruptions to existing play areas.
The addition includes one flexible and three standard classrooms, new restrooms, 150 new lockers, and an expanded parking that meets DPS parking requirements. The units are air conditioned from a new mechanical system located in an enclosed penthouse on the roof.
About Learning Landscapes
Learning Landscapes include a playfield, age-appropriate equipment, gardens, trees, non-traditional play features, shade structures and a gateway to the neighborhood. The objectives of the initiative include reducing discipline issues on school grounds, providing better physical education and resources for classroom projects, establishing a gathering place for neighborhood families and strengthening neighborhood-school partnerships.
The Learning Landscapes being dedicated this fall were funded through the $310 million general obligation bond approved by voters in November 2003.
