Merrill Middle School To Host Community Night Nov. 18 Showcasing Cherry Creek Arts Festival's Mobile Art Collection; Exhibit To Remain At School Through Dec. 6
Merrill Middle School will host a community night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at the school to showcase the Cherry Creek Arts Festival's "Mobile Art Collection" (1551 S. Monroe St.). The exhibit will remain open to the public at Merrill Middle School through Monday, Dec. 6.
The Mobile Art Collection consists of original works of art from exhibiting and student artists and tours throughout Colorado to schools, libraries, community centers and other public venues.
To make it a comprehensive educational experience, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival provides several educational tools that can be used in the classroom or as part of a community program. The Mobile Art Collection program guide includes resource and reference materials that foster education of media and techniques the exhibiting artists employ. Developed for teachers, the guide includes artist biographies, additional resources, inter-curricular lesson plans and activities. In addition, each work of art is accompanied by a 'take away' educational piece written in both English and Spanish.
Merrill students will be actively engaged in the Mobile Art Collection from its installation, to handling the art, to dismantling the exhibition. In addition, student docents are trained to give tours of the collection to the student body and school community.
The Mobile Art Collection is sponsored by the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Janus Capital Group and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
