Abraham Lincoln High School To Host Bonfils Blood Drive And 9health Fair "In The Classroom" On Monday, Nov. 22
Abraham Lincoln High School is set to host Bonfils Blood Drive and 9Health Fair 'In the Classroom' from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22 in the Abraham Lincoln Community Room at 2285 S. Federal Blvd. Lincoln students have been trained to work as volunteers to help out with both the health fair and the blood drive.
The blood drive is part of Bonfils' High School Challenge. The challenge calls for Colorado high schools to participate by organizing a blood drive and then competing for the highest percentage of blood donors from their eligible student body. In addition, blood donors will be eligible to win a Bonfils-sponsored trip to New York City for a behind-the-scenes tour of MTV studios. Entry forms will be provided at the school.
Donors need to be in good general health with no history of hepatitis or HIV, however there are additional medical requirements, including:
- At least 18 years old or 17 years old with parental consent
- Weigh at least 110 pounds
- No tattoos for at least one year
- No piercings for at least one year (unless performed in a physician's office)
- No use of illegal or street drugs by needle (even once)
- Most medications are acceptable, but please check prior to donating
About 9Health Fair In the Classroom
9Health Fair In the Classroom is offered by 9 News at no charge to any school in the state of Colorado. The program is planned by, given for and conducted by the students. With the guidance and support of the school staff advisor, students coordinate health screenings and educational learning centers for their peers.
The In the Classroom program has been in existence for 21 years and during this time more than 300,000 young people and 900 schools have participated. The program has enabled students to learn more about their own health, safety issues, teen medical trends, and lifestyle options open to them at critical decision-making times in their lives.
