John F. Kennedy High School To Launch High School Prevention Curriculum "Project Toward No Drug Abuse"

John F. Kennedy High School and the DPS Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools are collaborating to pilot "Project Toward No Drug Abuse."

The curriculum, a high school component of the middle school life skills prevention curriculum, is new to DPS and targets drug and alcohol prevention with a focus on youth ages 14 to 19. The program consists of 12 in-class interactive sessions that provide decision making material targeting the use of cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, hard drugs and violent behavior. "Project TND" will be kicked off at JFK High School on Friday, Oct. 29 in five biology classes (180 freshman students).

Project TND has been rated a model program by the U.S. Department of Education, University of Colorado "Blueprints" Project and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

"I'm pleased that JFK teachers will pilot Project TND and that as a school we are proactively addressing the prevention needs of students," said Jeannie Peppel, principal.

John F. Kennedy High school is located at 2855 S. Lamar St. For more information, contact Haley Brown, prevention coordinator, JFK High School, 303-763-4300.
