First-Of-Its-Kind Free Webcast Presents Removing Roadblocks To Bullying, Harassment And Violence Prevention Programs In Public Schools

Ten Denver Public Schools leaders in the prevention of bullying, sexual harassment and violence will be featured in a first-of-its-kind national webcast and interactive discussion from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the University of Denver to discuss removing the roadblocks to successful implementation of bullying, harassment and violence prevention programs in public schools.

Hosted by Rutgers psychologists Dr. Steven Dranoff and Dr. Wanda Dobrich, the telecast is produced in collaboration with Willis Risk Solutions, Denver Public Schools, the University of Denver and the San Diego County Office of Education.

The webcast is recommended for superintendents, educators, school administrators, school psychologists, school social workers, counselors, teachers, risk managers, insurance underwriters, legislators, nurses and others who have an interest in prevention. The webcast is free to attend.

This unique webcast features prominent faculty and administrators in the Denver, San Diego and Newark public schools, all of whom are leaders in the prevention of bullying, sexual harassment and violence. Panelists will share insights and empirical data on effective methods of overcoming the roadblocks to implementation, fidelity and sustainability.

These experts will explain the steps necessary to building the infrastructure to establish social-emotional learning in the curriculum and improve the school climate for learning.

There are roadblocks every step of the way in implementing prevention programs. While the obvious ones deal with time and money, there are less well-understood psychological roadblocks that also stand in the way. When these are put together, it is not surprising that character education and social-emotional learning have been slow to gain traction in many public schools.

The live Webcast is being broadcast from Denver University's Sturm Auditorium in Sturm Hall. Other live links for the telecast include sites in San Diego, California and Newark, New Jersey.

To attend this interactive free webcast, contact event coordinator Gail Harvey to obtain a map and parking permit, 303-756-4018, or by email at gailharvey@msn.com. Employees of Denver Public Schools may RSVP to Irma Anthony, Program Manager, DPS Social Work Services, at irma_anthony@dpsk12.org.
