Baker Middle School Students Dismissed Early Today
Baker Middle School dismissed students at approximately 1 p.m. today in response to concerns about new lighting that had been installed at the school this summer. Late this morning, the new lighting in the library fell from the ceiling. No one was injured. The school's regular dismissal time is 2:25 p.m.
As a precaution, students were moved out of classrooms and into the cafeteria and auditorium while crews from the Denver Public Schools Facility Management department inspected the new lighting, which also had been installed in classrooms throughout the building. Crews will work throughout the day and this evening to repair the lighting in the library and double-check the installation all other fixtures throughout the school.
Denver Public Schools will make a decision later this evening about whether the quality of the lighting fixtures in each classroom can be assured in time for the start of the school day tomorrow.
Check the school voicemail (303-620-5560) and the Denver Public Schools website (www.dpsk12.org) for an announcement about whether Baker Middle School will be open tomorrow.
Baker Middle School is located at 574 W. 6th Ave. For more information, contact the DPS Communications Office at 720-423-3414.
