Operation School Bell Hosts Media Day Tuesday, Aug. 31
Assistance League of Denver, a chapter of National Assistance League®, welcomes you from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 31 to see Operation School Bell in action. The facility is located at 1331 East Colfax Ave.
Operation School Bell, the national philanthropic project of the organization, provides children in need with new school clothes, including a warm winter jacket, pants, shirts and a voucher for new shoes. The Mile High Auxiliary of ALD also provides a health kit and an age-appropriate book. Each child gets to choose their own clothing and book, under the guidance of an Assistance League volunteer.
Children are referred by school social workers. The volunteers at Operation School Bell believe that the project enhances self-esteem, promotes learning and encourages regular school attendance for the recipients.
"Last year our volunteers clothed over 2,000 students at a cost of under $75 per child," said Lynne Pettyjohn, president of Assistance League of Denver. "There is nothing like watching our caring volunteers bring smiles and a look of pride to the faces of the children. We are proud of the fact that we are the only chapter that has provided this service for 27 straight years."
Donations are needed and welcome and may be sent to: Assistance League of Denver, 1400 Josephine St., Denver, CO 80206. For more information, please call 303-332-5205 or call Alice Foster at 303-378-9948.
