“The Procrastinators” from North High School won a Renaissance Award at the Global Finals of the Destination ImagiNation tournament last week in Knoxville, Tennessee. They competed in the secondary level of cartoon dimensions.
The Renaissance Award is given for outstanding design, engineering, execution or performance. Very few of these awards are presented. In fact, the appraisal team doesn't have to give any if it doesn’t feel there are any deserving teams.
"The appraisal team never knew a cartoon could be serious…some of the appraisers were so emotionally moved that we physically had trouble getting out of our seats. This performance was truly spectacular," read a statement from the appraisal team.
Katie Johnson, Sarah Taylor, Josh Mangiagli and Bo Blodgett make up the team managed by Cheryl Johnson and Louise West. The team took second place at the state competition earlier this year.
Destination ImagiNation is designed to help students develop a unique and critical skill set by emphasizing creativity, problem solving and teamwork.
The “Inside Jokers” from John F. Kennedy High School also attended the international tournament after placing first in the state competition in April.
