The Hispanic Education Advisory Council elected new officers during a meeting on Wednesday, June 9.

Community member and parent Judi Diaz-Bonacquisti was elected chair, community member and parent Heidi Loshbaugh was elected vice-chair, community member and parent Marlene DeLaRosa was elected secretary, DPS prevention coordinator Jon Gallegos was elected treasurer, and community member Phil Gutierrez was elected parliamentarian.
 
The purpose of HEAC is to serve as a liaison between the Denver Hispanic community and the Denver Public Schools, communicating to the Board and Superintendent the educational concerns of the Denver Hispanic community and emphasizing the paramount need to improve the academic achievement of Hispanic students throughout the Denver School District.

Monthly General Meetings of the Council are held on the second Wednesday of each month from August to June. HEAC will begin meeting again in August of 2004.
