Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary School Readers To Be Honored Tonight At Rockies Game

Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary School’s one million word readers will celebrate their reading success by attending the Rockies baseball game tonight (Tuesday, May 25).

Over 500 tickets were donated to the school for the students and their families to attend the event. The generous donation came from the family of Mrs. Sharron Mathews, the school’s former Gifted and Talented education teacher, who passed away in March.

Also, four students (Tunde Kelani, Ilham Dehry, Hector Lopez and Martin Carrilo) will be invited down on the field with principal Robert Woodson and assistant principal Jana Smith for special recognition. All four students read over two million words this school year.

The district-wide literacy plan encourages all students to read at least one million words each year.

The Colorado Rockies play the San Diego Padres at 7 p.m. at Coors Field.

Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary School is located at 14390 E. Bolling Dr. The school’s telephone number is 303-576-6557.
