David Amundson, Virginia Lorbeer To Be Inducted Into Denver Public Schools Athletic League Hall Of Fame

Two longtime teachers and coaches will be inducted into the DPS Athletic League Hall of Fame at the 32nd Annual Coaches Conference on Wednesday, May 26.

The conference will be held at the Driscoll Center North (2055 E. Evans Ave.) on the University of Denver campus. The induction portion of the program will begin at about 5 p.m.

The Hall of Fame Award will be presented to David Amundson, a retired soccer coach at John F. Kennedy High School. He is remembered by his players for developing their skills and instilling in them a winning attitude without sacrificing integrity or fair play. He treated each of his athletes the same - with dignity and respect. Amundson began his career with Denver Public Schools as a teacher at Baker Junior High School in 1964.

A Special Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Virginia Lorbeer, a teacher and cheerleading coach who worked both at Monbello and Manual high schools (beginning her career there in 1965). Virginia taught by one simple rule - “you earn it.” Whether on the field or on the court, she set an example of excellence for her students.
