The First Annual Hispanic Education Advisory Council (HEAC) Awards Ceremony will take place tonight (Monday, May 24).
HEAC members received 90 nominations, an overwhelming response for the first annual awards.
Three students - one each from a high school, middle school and elementary school - will receive the award on Monday night. In the same manner, HEAC members want to recognize teachers who have enabled DPS Latino students to flourish over the years. Parents and community members will also be honored. All of the nominees will receive a certificate.
The ceremony will take place at the Clayton Campus Auditorium, at 3801 Martin Luther King Blvd., from 6 to 8 p.m.
El Mariachi de Bryant-Webster Elementary and the Suzuki Violins from Denison Elementary will perform.
Award winners include students Andreyna Martinez (Hallett Science and Technology Academy), Karla Mier (Kepner Middle School) and Leticia Hernandez (North High School); parents Adriana Santaolalla (Brown Elementary School), Lucia Virgen (Place Middle School), and Rosalba Ibarra (East High School); and teachers Gilberto Marin (Force Elementary School), Emily Torrez (Lake Middle School) and Bob Fernandez (Abraham Lincoln High School.)
