On Wednesday, May 19 adult students at Emily Griffith Opportunity School will host Diversity Day, a celebration of world culture.
Students from the English as a Second Language Department and from Emily Griffith High School will showcase the many cultures represented at the school with music, dance, food, displays, an international market and a native-dress Parade of Nations.
The school will be transformed to represent different areas of the world, and students will act as ambassadors to introduce guests to each country's culture, history and language. The celebration begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 3:30 p.m. The Parade will take place at 11:30 a.m., with lunch and a variety show to follow. The public is invited to attend.
Opportunity School was established in 1916 to serve the needs of all adult students who wished to gain an education, especially those who were working or were of modest means. The school has welcomed international students since its inception and is currently home to a thriving multicultural student body. Each year many international students enroll in vocational programs offered by the school and the ESL Department enrolls an additional 2,600 immigrants and refugees representing over 50 countries.
The school is located at 1250 Welton St. Please call Kari Gomez-Smith at 303-575-4754 for more information. kari_gomez-smith@dpsk12.org
