Third-grade students at Newlon Elementary School created their own publishing company and will unveil 26 original handmade books at the culmination of their writers' workshop from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at the school. Each author will present his or her own book.
"These third-graders have done what no New York publishing company can do," said teacher Jennifer Wilson. "They've published 26 high-quality, creative, handmade books in a mere three-week period."
Working under their chosen company name of "The Superbooks Publishers," students completed an application of employment and a contract of agreement before they were assigned an editor and art director. Students were responsible for every part of the process from idea formation, to planning, drafting, revising, editing, typing, re-editing, illustrating, gluing and sewing.
Newlon Elementary School is located at 361 Vrain St. For more information, contact the school at 303-934-2441.
