The DPS Hispanic Education Advisory Council (HEAC) is seeking student, teacher and parent award nominations for the first annual HEAC Awards. The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 24 in the Clayton College auditorium (3801 Martin Luther King Blvd.)
This awards program is designed to recognize students, teachers and parents in elementary, middle and high schools for their achievements.
HEAC is asking schools to identify Hispanic students who were not achieving at a proficient level according to the Colorado CSAP reports but who have made a significant change academically and are now achieving at proficiency or above.
Nominations are also being sought for teachers who have demonstrated above and beyond their duties as teachers to ensure that Hispanic students are given every tool to succeed. These teachers think outside of the box and try new strategies.
HEAC is also looking for parents who have been involved in their schools. These parents are always willing and able to volunteer and spend extra time in the schools assisting in developing a positive role for students, teachers and other parents.
