The Valverde Elementary School dance group Grupo Folklorico Infantil Viva Mexico returned from the 2004 National Folklorico Competition with two first place trophies.

The competition in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 14-17 featured 46 groups from around the United States. The dance group competed in the junior and pre-junior division categories. Valverde's dance group won national titles in the small group junior division (10-15 year olds) and ensembles pre-junior (6-9 year olds).

Grupo Folklorico Infantil Viva Mexico is comprised of 30 students from Valverde. The group has been practicing for over two years and has performed at various events and schools. The General Consulate of Mexico and the Mexican Cultural Center of Denver recently appointed Viva Mexico as the official representative children’s dance company of the United States. Valverde's dance troupe will be on tour late May starting in the State of Texas (San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Austin and Corpus Christi.)
