Montbello Coach To Be Inducted Into National High School Coaches Association Hall Of Fame

Don Gatewood, the boys’ track coach at Montbello High School, will be inducted into the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Wednesday, June 23. Gatewood is in his 33rd year of coaching for DPS. Larry Mills of Brush, Colo., also will be inducted.

Members of Gatewood’s teams have collected league, regional and states records and have won 25 league and regional championships. He has been nominated several times for Denver Public Schools and Colorado Coach of the Year as well as for National Coach of the Year.

Gatewood has served as the representative for DPS track coaches to the State of Colorado Coaches Association for the past 24 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Colorado High School Coaches Association and was inducted into the Colorado High School Coaches Association Coaches Hall of Fame in June 2001.
