DPS Teachers Will Present At 11th Annual International Literacy Research Conference In Cuba

Joslyn K. Owens, a mathematics teacher on special assignment at Florence Crittenton School, will be presenting a research paper she co-authored titled "Impact of Multicultural Curriculum, Content, and Instruction: Assessment of a Pre-service Program through Teacher Candidates' Eyes” at the 11th Annual International Literacy Research Conference in Havana, Cuba from June 27-30.

Owens worked on the paper with Dr. Marilyn J. Taylor, Dean of the School of Education at the University of Alaska, Juneau, and Dr. Marta I. Cruz-Janzen, professor of multicultural education at Florida Atlantic University. All three will present at the conference. The paper will published in the September Edition of Curriculum and Instruction, and International Journal published by James Nocholar Publishers.

Four Morey Middle School teachers and principal Kristin Waters also will present at the conference. Literacy coach Chrisanne LaHue, eighth-grade teacher Valeri Kershaw and sixth-grade teachers Nicole Saab and Trish Harder will present information on Denver's district-wide implementation of the literacy program and Morey's challenges and successes with that implementation.
