Steele Elementary School Announces Date For 2004 Washington Park House Tour

Steele Elementary School announced today that its annual always-popular Washington Park House Tour has been scheduled for Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual home tour showcases a selection of the Washington Park neighborhood's finest homes and raises much-needed funds for the school's enrichment programs.

For 2004, the tour includes six beautiful Washington Park homes. One house features inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright, another a Victorian remodel, a Santa Fe renovation and others sure to fascinate. All homes on the tour are located within the East Washington Park neighborhood. In addition to the homes, the annual tour includes a Steele School barbecue and plant sale.

This year's tour is generously sponsored by Preferred Properties, FirstBank of Cherry Creek, American West Homes and the Steele Elementary PTA. The tour's sponsors provide essential funding, supplies and volunteers to ensure a successful and enjoyable program.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the tour. Tickets may be purchased at the school, located at 320 Marion St., Preferred Properties, located at 1041 S. Gaylord St. in Denver and FirstBank of Cherry Creek, located at 100 St. Paul St. Proceeds from the tour benefit Steele's vital enrichment classes, including the music program. Children's artwork and singing performances will also be showcased at the school and at one of the homes.

In addition to the arts program, 5 percent of the profits will be donated to the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Education Outreach Program. This organization supports over 3,400 DPS homeless children in Colorado by offering numerous services - clothing, medical care, transportation, etc. The main goal is to get these children enrolled in school, and keep them there, in turn hoping to break the cycle of homelessness through education.

Steele Elementary was built in 1913 and is a registered historical landmark. It houses approximately 313 students from Early Childhood through the fifth-grade.
