El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant Webster, under the direction of Pamela Liñan, will present its first concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27 at Horace Mann Middle School. The evening will be a fundraiser for El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant Webster, the first elementary school mariachi band in the DPS. The evening will also include performances by the nationally renowned Mariachi Sol De Mi Tierra and guitarist E.J. Rodriguez. Tickets are $10 for adults and children.
Just over a year ago, students who had never played instruments before learned to play their first notes. El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant Webster was born. The Mariachi consists of students in third- through fifth-grade. To date, there are 16 students in the performing Mariachi and eight beginner students who played their first notes three months ago in November. All students are learning musicianship skills and techniques as well as performance skills. In addition, each student must be dedicated to practicing their instrument everyday, attend lessons four times a week, and work for the good of the group. They must maintain their grades at high levels, do their homework, and model good citizenship.
You will be amazed at what the children have learned and how well they play in such a relatively short time. Donations above and beyond $10 are greatly appreciated. Checks can be made to Bryant Webster Mariachi. Please come and join us for this exhilarating evening of music and celebration. It will be an evening you won't soon forget.
