A new generation of Northwest Denver choreographers has fused various styles of dance with urban moves for North High School’s Spring Dance Production, Urban Action. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 22 and 23 at North High School.
Urban Action only features the North High School dancers, three Skinner Middle School dance teams, and the Valdez Elementary School dance team. North High School’s dance program has created a Dance Outreach Program with Skinner and Valdez. In its third year, the Outreach Program has grown from 15 participants to 100.
Also performing is The Hannah Kahn Modern Dance Company, which completed a residency program at North this year. Katie McIver, company dancer, choreographed and taught the 23 Dance Performance Class members an upbeat modern dance piece, Gotta Doo. The entire company will also perform a six-minute dance piece entitled, Rushes-H. Thus, North High School’s annual Spring Dance Production is quickly evolving into a Northwest community performance, spanning across many schools and age groups, all sharing the dance.
North High School is located at 2960 N. Speer Blvd. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. For more information, contact Barbejoy Ponzio, Dance Director at 303-964-2795.
