Community, Parents To Discuss Reform Ideas At Cole Middle School

From 6-7:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, April 14) over 100 Cole Middle School parents, students and community members will attend a public meeting to present their proposals and rally community support around a commitment to a brighter future for the school.

Working with Metro Organizations for People, Cole parents and students have researched the reform opportunities and the myriad of resources available to their school. They have prepared a series of proposals for Principal Nicole Veltze to address the transformation of their school and their future.

In December 2003, Cole was the only DPS school to be rated “unsatisfactory” by the state for three straight years. Under state law the school has one year left - this one - to demonstrate improvement. It’s the only school in the state currently dealing with such pressure.

The Superintendent Jerry Wartgow, Mayor Hickenlooper, Governor Owens and many business leaders joined forces in January and February to tutor students on Saturdays in the hopes of improving CSAP test scores.

Cole Middle School is located at 3240 Humboldt St. For more information, contact Principal Nicole Veltze at 303-296-8421 or Patricia Lawless, Metro Organizations for People, at 720-297-7091.
