Ten Kunsmiller Middle School honor roll students, eight parents and two teachers will leave on the 9th Annual Honor Roll cruise on Saturday, April 24. The students will board Carnival's ship, Victory, sailing to Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Fundraisers that began last May raised the money to pay for the cruise. One hundred and twenty-one honor roll students were invited to attend, and 10 chose to go. There were bake sales and bowl-a-thons and the school worked with restaurants to select a night a week for a month for students and parents to eat at that restaurant and the school would receive 10 percent of the profit.
While in Cozumel, the students will have the chance to ride in a 48-passenger submarine 80 to 100 feet below the ocean's surface exploring the coral reefs and countless species of tropical fish, take a kayak adventure in the Caribbean Sea or deep sea fishing with a private guide.
In Grand Cayman, they can swim with and feed the stingray at Stingray City Sandbar. In Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the students will climb Dunn's River Falls, a 600-foot waterfall and then go to Dolphin Cove to swim with and feed the dolphins.
“This cruise experience is a once in a lifetime thrill that will never be forgotten,” said Principal Miguel Salazar. “This just proves that hard work and good grades does pay off in the end.”
