Students at East High School will donate $430 to the Rape Assistance and Awareness Program (RAAP) at 9:45 a.m. Friday, March 12 at the school. As part of a class project, students in Celeste Archer’s American Contemporary Issues classes for freshmen set up small businesses with the goal that each business make a $50 profit.
Examples of small businesses are locker decorating and computer services, tutoring, making hats, t-shirts, jewelry and bumper stickers, and babysitting. The business project runs the entire semester. Students must pay themselves a salary of $5.20/hour.
The donation money comes from a 10 percent "tax" that each business pays. Each class nominates a charity, and then all classes vote on one. Combining their efforts makes a bigger impact for the charity.
East High School is located at 1545 Detroit St. For more information, contact Celeste Archer, East High School teacher, at 303-394-8300.
