Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper today lent his support to a new pay system for teachers. “ProComp is an innovative approach that puts Denver at the forefront in education. I believe this new plan can help kids and teachers achieve their dreams,” he said.

The new plan was developed jointly between the DCTA, representing Denver teachers, and the DPS administration. Board of Education President Les Woodward echoed the mayor’s comments, “We need to continue to work together to support the great things happening in Denver classrooms.”

The DCTA Board of Directors and building representatives each ratified the ProComp agreement last month. DCTA President Becky Wissink said, “It’s important to remember that this is only one step in the process. Teachers are not voting on whether to join the ProComp system, but whether to move this forward to Denver voters for funding.”

Mayor Hickenlooper pledged his support to find the resources for this “needed boost in teacher pay.”
