Denver SCORES And DPS Elementary Students Team Up At Local Starbucks Locations To Read Original Poetry

Every Tuesday afternoon for the rest of this month, elementary students in grades 3-5 from Eagleton, Barnum, Fairview elementary schools and others will gather at downtown Starbucks locations to read original poetry.

Poetry readings will be at 3:45 p.m. on March 9 (today) at 16th and Tremont streets; 4:30 p.m. on March 16 at 16th and Tremont streets; (time to be determined) on March 23 at 16th and Curtis streets; and at 4:15 p.m. on March 30 at REI, 1416 Platte St.

Denver SCORES, a recreationally-linked education program, is dedicated to translating the values of leadership, teamwork and communication to 288 at-risk young girls and boys in north and west Denver. Denver SCORES provides girls' and boys' soccer teams and creative writing workshops everyday after school in eight public elementary schools. Soccer and writing activities are tools to emphasize good decision-making, discipline and positive self-expression.

Denver SCORES employs 36 DPS teachers as writing teachers and soccer coaches and serves more than 250 boys and girls every day after school. Starbucks has supported America SCORES since 1997.
