The George Washington High School Choir has its sights set on a chance to perform at the Sydney Opera House on July 4, 2004 and will host a benefit performance Friday, March 19 in an effort to cover the $3,000-per-person cost for the trip.
The choir has been informed to perform the “Berlioz Requiem” with Dr. William Hall, Dean of Chapman University’s School of Music, conducting. The choir would be accompanied by a professional orchestra, soloists, and four brass bands. (Dr. Hall also conducted the choir in a performance of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” in Beijing, China in 2002.)
The March 19 performance will also include performances by The Kowalski Twins, The Swing Set, The Denver MountainAires Chorus, UltraSoniX, Interlocken, the GWHS Gospel Choir, and other George Washington High School soloists.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students. Children under five are free.
Several of the community groups performing are associated with the Barbershop and Sweet Adelines societies.
The Kowalski Twins bring a smile to audiences wherever they go and they have gone just about everywhere since they got together six years ago. They have sung at venues throughout the Midwest and they have scored high enough in District contests to win spots in the International Senior Quartet Competitions held in Tucson, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, and Riverside, California. They also won the 2002 Rocky Mountain District Senior Quartet Championship.
These young-at-heart barbershoppers include Bill Foster, Jerry Perron, Bege Martin, and Bob Young. You may have dozed off with some other quartet, but with these four on stage, don’t even think about it! Just trying to figure out how a quartet can be made up of twins will keep you awake.
