There’s a tremendous opportunity coming up for young African-American boys grades five thru 12, their parents, teachers and counselors. Join the African-American Leadership Institute and Metro State for the 14th Annual Expanding The Visions Conference “Men & Generation Next: Multidimensional to Reach Your Potential”, Saturday, March 20, from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Auraria campus in downtown Denver.
The African-American Leadership Institute (AALI) coordinates Expanding The Visions (ETV) to provide a vehicle for mentor relationships and career development for African-American boys grades 5 - 12 throughout the state of Colorado. The objective is to mobilize African-American men as workshop Presenters and Mentors for youth the day of the conference.
In addition to 30 youth workshops, ETV will feature an exciting and dynamic adult program for parents, teachers, counselors and community members, which will focus on the state of African-American boys in our community. The presentation will offer advice and suggestions to adults on how to identify and address issues and concerns relating to young men, how to help them identify resources and services in the community, how to support and encourage them to make thoughtful, smart decisions and how to plan for their futures. Tools for adults re-entering the workforce will also be presented during this session.
If you are interested in volunteering or being a mentor for a day, contact the AALI office at 303-299-9055 or visit the website to download a volunteer registration form at www.aali-rockymtn.org.
Students and their parents can register on-site the day of the program. Conference fees are $10.00 for students and $20.00 for parents/guardians. Scholarships are available for both students and parents. Transportation will be available from both East and George Washington high schools.
The African-American Leadership produces ETV by collaborating with numerous schools, organizations and corporations. The McDonald’s Corporation will provide breakfast and lunch. For more information call The African-American Leadership Institute at 303-299-9055 and ask for Norma Paige (npaige@aali-rockymtn.org). AALI is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency.
