Mayor John Hickenlooper will visit students at Del Pueblo Elementary School from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.
Board of Education member Michelle Moss will read to Early Childhood Education and kindergarten students at 9:30 a.m.
Other guest readers include Board of Education members Elaine Gantz Berman and Theresa Pena, Northwest Assistant Area Superintendent Dave Debus and Denver Classroom Teachers Association President Becky Wissink, who will visit the school between 1 and 1:30 p.m. Also, police officers Jason Brest and Victoria Oliver from the Denver Police Department’s District 6, librarians from Denver’s Byers Branch Library and James Valdez from the Colorado Rockies organization will read to children at the school.
Del Pueblo Elementary is one of several schools in Denver that are celebrating the National Education Association’s (NEA) annual Read Across America event this week to focus attention on how important it is to motivate children to read and master basic skills. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on or around March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
