The Reals, DSA’s Jazz Workshop Orchestra Added To “Tellerpalooza” Line-Up; Benefit For Teller Elementary School At Bluebird Theater Is Thursday, April 15

The Reals, one of Denver’s most engaging live bands, and the Jazz Workshop Orchestra from Denver School of the Arts, the only band from Colorado chosen for an elite jazz competition in New York this coming May, have been added to the line-up for “Tellerpalooza.”

The evening of blues, rock and jazz will benefit Teller Elementary School. The event is Thursday, April 15 at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E. Colfax Ave., beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Chris Daniels, one of Denver’s legendary singers, songwriters and performers also will perform. Chris will play a solo set (his band, “The Kings,” were unavailable). Chris Daniels and The Kings released “The Spark” last year and his band has just completed its 12th European tour. The band’s music is played nationally on radio in this country and across Europe and South America.

Toast, a nine-year veteran of the Denver rock scene, Horse Thief and Big Boy Blue round-out the varied musical performers.

The Reals play an eclectic and original style with their roots in the best of Americana. The band has just released its second self-produced disc, “The Majestic.”

The Jazz Workshop Orchestra (JWO) will compete May 22 to 24 in New York during the Ninth Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Competition and Festival. The JWO is one of only 15 finalists nationally among 100 bands that entered the competition.

Tickets for the benefit are available by calling 303-598-0061, e-mail yawger@comcast.net or by the visiting the theater web site via www.nipp.com. (Look for the Bluebird Theater under the “All Locations” drop-down menu, then look for “Tellerpalooza” under April 15.)

The benefit will support art and music programs at Teller. While the November 2003 mill levy election will provide additional funds for art and music education to all schools in the district, including Teller, the Board of Education has indicated that the new taxpayer support for art and music should be in addition to existing art and music programs.

Teller Elementary School, 1150 Garfield St., is Congress Park neighborhood’s best-kept secret. Teller boasts a renovated, state-of-the-art facility where enrollment reflects Denver’s cultural diversity. The involved community and staff promote the value of a solid educational foundation and provide students with the tools for achieving high academic standards, including a comprehensive curriculum, challenge and enrichment programs, on-site child care, full-day kindergarten and an experienced, caring faculty.

The school’s telephone number is 303-333-4285.
