David Liu of Steck Elementary will move forward in the National PTA Reflections Program for winning the gold medal in the music competition. Liu, along with seven other DPS students, were honored recently at the Colorado PTA Reflections awards ceremony.
PTA Reflections is an arts recognition and achievement program for students based on the belief that all children deserve a quality arts education. Students enter the Reflections program through their local PTA/PTSA. Awards are given at the local, council, state and national levels.
There were 4,134 entries in this year's competition (themed "I am really happy when...”) in the categories of dance, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.
DPS had state finalists in five areas. For dance, Zoe Kromer from Steck Elementary School won the silver medal. In literature, Samantha Perez-Leftwich and Sonja Harley, both from Place Middle School, won the silver medal. For music, Eva Tuorangeau and Courtney Schlichting, both from Steck Elementary School, were awarded silver medals. In photography, Bennett Robinson from Park Hill School won the silver medal. And for visual arts, Emily Paton from Slavens School won the silver medal.
